So,

Do you associate books with memories? Or certain items? Something reminded me of this about a week ago, and I wanted to post about it. I picked up Hollow City by Ransom Riggs in the thoughts that I would buy the first one (a friend actually gifted me it and I had grabbed the eBook one earlier). Now, my first reason wasn't just because of JesseTheReader's suggestion (but I must say he has great taste), but because of something else.

My grandfather used to love unique photographs. He would collect them, search for them in Yard Sales with my grandmother and just.. somehow find them. I believe once he found one on the street! Now, a great deal weren't so much creepy as strange.

Older photographs, leaning more toward black and white can often be exposed and look very... different. Not what was intended at the time. Sunken in eyes, deadly stares and the like. Or even things in the background where something should not be.He also liked pictures of Crytpids. So, I believe when I start Mr. Ransom Riggs books, they will be like sitting next to my grandfather, scared, excited and curious for what comes next.

Love and Peace,

So this is the first edition of my Writing Wednesday!

So many things could be posted for this! So many ideas, so many paragraphs!

So, what better topic to post other than, our writing goals!

Do you have monthly, weekly or daily goals? Do you keep a word count?

Personally, I am going for a 200-500 per spree of writing. I want to try to build up in the next few months up to a bare minimum of 500. :) I love writing, but sometimes it can be rough when you have ADHD & writers block. It can be like shaking shiny keys infront of me.

I often keep alarms, to make sure that I keep up not just my writing goals, but life as well. Living with ADHD, sometimes setting small alarms is a great reminder of " HEY! I CAN'T BE STARING AT THAT SQUIRREL! I GOT SHIT TO DO/TO WRITE!"

When the writers block hits me, I try to sit back and relax. Grab a cup of tea, maybe listen to some relaxing (to me) music & just try to open my mind. Just taking in the smell of the tea & falling into the lyrics of a good Ludo or Cradle of Filth song can be so soothing to not just the mind, but the soul.

Heck, sometimes I even grab a book. Sometimes diving into someone elses world really helps my clam shell of a mind slowly open its hinged mouth and release for sweet air. Albeit a classic such as the wonderful terra firma of Wonderland, or the high paced adventures in Chicago in Divergent or just the imagery from such books as The Stand, letting myself fall into place sometimes lets my characters peek their heads out and say " hi. i am ready to talk again. "

I do whatever I can to not fall into those writing slumps. Those literary dumps. Once I fall in, it can be MONTHS before I can escape the razor edged talons of what I call the Slump Hawk. I think I may talk about the Slump Hawk in the next WW.

So, like asked before, what do you set yout goals to be? Do you have advice for me? Do you have any idea of what you might want me to write about next?

Anyways,

Peace and Love,

DISCLAIMER:

This is /not/ all the books I have gotten over the past few months, just the ones I could carry out of my room.

ALSO:

A lot of the ones I got myself were discount, kindle deals, ARC's. I never pay more than $6 for most of these books myself!

I more than likely will make another video soon!

Title: Splintered

Author: A. G. Howard

Series: Yes.

Age Range: I would say 16 and up.

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Fantasy

Would I recommend it to anyone: HELL YES YES YES YES

Description on Goodreads:

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

Review:

Okay. OKAY. LET ME SAY THAT HOLY MONKEYS EATING CORN MUFFINS I LOVE THIS BOOK.

I am going to be spoiler free, but GOOD GOD. The characters are deep, the writing is like beautiful art and just... /Morpheus/.

The way that it all falls together is like paint on a canvas, so delicately placed... so vivid and pulling. I found it so hard to put down this book at ANY point. And I have ADHD.

Even while reading another book, THIS was always on my mind. I found myself needing it more and more. Now, I am waiting for the first to get the Novella. BECAUSE I NEED IT. I own Unhinged, and I plan on buying Ensnared.

The author herself is even a grand example of someone who, even if I didn't end up becoming friends with; would be on my BUY IMMEDIATLEY list. One of my top authors.

Her world is like a fine wine, to be savored and enjoyed.

And I, would love to live in her dark wonderland.

With Morpheus.

My Mothman.

My Booktube Intro!

So... let it begin. D:

Saturday, January 11, 2014

So I have been thinking...

A lot of popular YA (Young Adult) books are in production/optioned lately to be movies.

Not that I mind, I hope they are good and all [read as: YOU BETTER NOT MESS UP TFioS HOLLYWOOD!], but I worry that Hollywood just... isn't trying anymore.

Since the blow up of the Harry Potter movies, other books to movie in the YA and MG (Middle Grade) have been showing up more and more.

Sure, I loved Hunger Games, and absolutely loathed Twilight, but when will this trend end? Do we want it too? Is there a limit to what is acceptable and what is just.. excessive?

I haven't seen Catching Fire/Enders Game/Beautiful Creatures/Percy Jackson Lightining Thief-Sea of Monsters yet and I am not quite sure I am going to see Vampire Academy or Divergent when it first comes out. I am actually SCARED of what they might become. With so many hit or misses, what is a fan girl to do?

Should I cling to my books and hope for the best? Should I hide behind them and let them know it's okay. That I will love them regardless of what HollyWEIRD does to them?

Should I stand firm and watch the movies with a brave face?

This booknerdigans solider has no idea how to respond in the face of the tweakers and editors of Hollywood.

So, since my computer is up again...

I have been rather busy in the past few weeks! I finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkins, the novella Life before Legend by Marie Lu (novella for The Legend Trilogy) and just a bunch of random stuff!

I have decided to take part in the 2014 Goodreads Reading Challange for 50 books! I am hoping to actually surpass it. I only said 50, due to the impossibility of knowing what may or may not happen this year. :)

My current readings are:

I plan on finishing them ASAP, a lot of them are half way done or more, I just have to get to them.

Have you read any of these? Can you make me suggestions?

Anyways, I may start book tubing! So that is exciting. :D
